Don’t skip this...
Young Adults Summer “Core Groups” are for staying deeply connected
throughout the summer months while we don’t have our regular Thursday
community group time. These Core Groups offer a space to catch up, be
intentional, pray together, and share what Jesus is teaching us through the
Sermon on the Mount.
Directions for Core Groups
Find 2 to 5 people of the same gender that you’d like to gather
consistently with over the summer. Each time you gather, you’ll work
through “The Flow” in this guide (page 8). That Flow will look like:
Community, Confession, Invitation, Scripture, and Contend.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How often should we meet?
Every-other-week throughout the summer makes for a good and
consistent rhythm without overwhelming your schedule. But do
whatever is most realistic for the group.
2. What day of the week do Core Groups meet on?
It all depends on the best day that works for the people in your group.
Since Thursdays are already set aside for Young Adults Community in
our schedule, that may be an easy option!
3. Where should our Core Group meet?
It’s up to you! Coffee shops, at church, in a home, or over
FaceTime/Zoom are all good options. But for the summer months, the
biggest win is meeting outside!
4. How long should we meet for?
The goal is for the group time to be meaningful and intentional,
without being too demanding on schedules. 1hr to a 1.15hr may be a
good goal. But dive right in when you meet!
5. What dates do we officially start and end our Core Groups?
YA Summer Core Groups will officially begin on June 11 and end on
August 27.
Young Adults Summer Rule of Life
During the summer, our schedules and routines are ever shifting due to
vacation and traveling. But our aim is that our commitment of follow Jesus
doesn’t take a back seat. Therefore, we have developed a new “summer
version” Rule of Life that will keep us connected to Jesus and one another.
This will consist of gathering with one another in Core Groups, our
various YA Summer Events, and Sunday Worship.
SUNDAY 5PM WORSHIP
We will continue to gather as a YA Community at the 5pm gathering, as
this has been our regular worship time throughout the year. As young
adults, we will remain committed to worshiping together as it’s a vital
rhythm in our discipleship to Jesus.
YA SUMMER EVENTS
All our summer events will be on Thursdays, starting at 6:30pm. There will
be one in June, July, and August. These will act as fun connecting points to
our broader Young Adults Community before we relaunch our weekly
Thursday gatherings in the fall!
CORE GROUPS
Core Groups will be the most vital way to stay connected through the
summer and go deep with others. These groups are a chance to go deeper
with others in our community that you otherwise don’t have during a
Thursday or Sunday gathering.
SCRIPTURE READING
Along with Core Group instructions, this guide also provides a Bible
reading plan for the summer! When you meet in your Core Group, you
can discuss what you’ve been reading.
The Flow: Core Group Rhythm
Each time your Core Group meets, you will work through the following
flow or “liturgy.” These prompts will help organize and guide your time
together. Some questions are provided to help you move through each
prompt, but feel free to adapt as it best suits your group!
To make the most of your time together, be sure to dive right in. And as
always, be sure to begin your time with prayer.
01 Community | Catch up with each other to break the ice and get the
time started.
• What’s the high and low since the last time we met?
• How have you specifically encountered God in the past week?
What has He been teaching you?
02 Confession | Confession is not meant to create guilt or shame. It
frees us to walk in the light and receive afresh the grace and forgiveness
that is already ours in Christ.
• Since we last gathered, what is one way or area we lacked full trust
or dependency on Christ?
After each person shares, the others say: “Thank you for sharing. Because of the
gospel, you are forgiven and made whole in Christ!”
03 Invitation | Share how or where you sense God is inviting you into
deeper dependency and trust in him.
04 Scripture | Share what has been impacting you in your Bible reading
and how you have been encountering God through it.
• What has impacted you lately in your Bible reading? How has God
been teaching, comforting, or challenging you?
05 Contend | End by receiving prayer requests and contend for one
another in prayer!
Bible Reading Questions
The following Bible study questions are to help you intentionally engage
with your reading. You can use them as journal prompts for the day or
simply reflect on them prayerfully. If these questions aren’t helpful for you,
feel free to disregard them or come up with your own!
1. What is the Holy Spirit inviting me to pay attention to in this
passage? Is it a word, phrase, action, or character? Something else?
2. What does this passage show me about myself and my need?
3. What does this passage show or teach me about God and His
character? How does it drive me to Jesus and the gospel?
4. How is the Holy Spirit inviting me to respond to what I’ve read,
and what He’s revealed to me?
Bible Reading Plan
Directions | This summer, our Bible reading plan will be Matthew 5 – 7,
otherwise known as Jesus’s “Sermon on the Mount.” It’s in this way that we
will engage with our broader church family as we work through this new
sermon series on Sundays.
The goal is to read through it slowly, a few times through over the
course of the whole summer. We are going to sit in this section, become
familiar with it, and study it for all it’s worth. But the goal isn’t just to
know it intellectually. The goal is to become young adults who live it
out as we partner with the Holy Spirit.
When you gather in your Core Groups, this will be reading that you will
discuss and reflect on together.
