SEEK THE THINGS ABOVE

OUR COMMON DEVOTION 2026

Starting Our Day:

Praying the Word of God

We begin each day by allowing the truths in

Colossians 3:1-4 to turn our hearts and minds upward.

1If then you have been raised with Christ,

seek the things that are above, where Christ is,

seated at the right hand of God.

2Set your minds on things that are above,

not on things that are on earth.

3For you have died,

and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

4When Christ who is your life appears,

then you also will appear with him in glory.

Reflection:

Now, slowly read verse 1 again and meditate on the following questions:

What would it look like to begin this day by seeking the things above—by fixing my hope and attention where Christ is?

How would my day be impacted by keeping in mind this truth about my identity: I have been “raised with Christ”?

Reclaiming Our Day:

Praying with Jesus

Many of us find that by the time we get to

noon, our day has gone in directions we had

not expected. Our hearts have wandered.

Our anxiety and false sense of control has

crept in. We need to reclaim our day. And we

do that by praying with Jesus.

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed by your name.

Your kingdom come, your will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our debts,

As we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For yours in the kingdom, the power,

And the glory forever. Amen.

Surrendering Our Day:

Praying with Reflection and Hope

Our day ends much like it began, with an

invitation to seek God. We surrender our day

to God with honest reflection and hope for tomorrow.

Give Thanks…

I am raised with Christ. He is my life.

My life is hidden with Christ in God.

Invite The Holy Spirit to Reveal…

Did I remember my identity today, that I am a new creation, raised with Christ?

What did I seek after today? (Christ or something else)?

Confess Struggles…

What distractions and temptations did I experience?

Where did I look for life in something other than Christ?

Look Ahead In Hope

The Risen Christ is with me and within me.

I am a new creation, raised with Christ.

Lord, empower me to live that truth afresh, tomorrow and as I wait for my physical resurrection in the new heavens and new earth, to come!

Amen.
