Thinking About Jesus

To love means loving the unlovable.

To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable.

Faith means believing the unbelievable.

-G.K. Chesterton

I’ve been meditating on this quote for the last few days.  And because it’s Easter week, I keep bringing it back to Jesus.

To love means loving the unlovable.  That’s what Jesus does.

Spend a few minutes reflecting on Jesus’ life and think about how Jesus loved the unlovable in the Gospels.

How have you experienced Jesus’ love for you in your brokenness, pride, judgmental attitudes, and seasons of rebellion?

What does it look like for you to love the unlovable?  Does anyone specific come to mind?

To forgive means pardoning the unpardonable. That’s what Jesus does.

Where do you see the forgiveness of Jesus in the Gospels?

Spend a few minutes reflecting on how Jesus has forgiven you.  We have no righteousness we can call our own.  We were hopelessly trapped in sin and death before we received the blessed forgiveness made possible through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on the cross.

Faith means believing the unbelievable.  That’s what Jesus makes possible.

Think about how the faith of the disciples increased after the resurrection.  What evidence of their faith do you see in the Book of Acts?

How has your faith increased as you have grown in your relationship with Jesus?  When do you find yourself believing the unbelievable?

Men, my prayer this Easter is that we will grow in our ability to love, forgive, and believe like Jesus.

Happy Easter!  He is risen!

He is risen, indeed!
