Saturday, March 16 | 9:30am-3:30pm | Student Ministry Room
Whether it's mental illness, a difficult childhood, abuse, an unsafe home environment, or broken relationships, trauma affects nearly everyone in our fast-paced, modern world. As parents, caregivers, and leaders of young people who have experienced or are experiencing trauma, how do we engage in these topics and vulnerable spaces from a Biblical lens? Or rather, could our understanding of the Bible shape how we engage in caring for others?
Join us Saturday, March 16 for a one-day seminar provided by Rhonda Andrews and Kimberly Tiel-Heye on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). TBRI addresses the complex needs of vulnerable children who have experienced early trauma and helps diffuse fear-based behaviors. Our desire is to empower and equip parents, caregivers, and River West Kids and Student Ministry leaders with the proper perspective and training to minister to young people facing trauma of all kinds. By doing this together, we hope to develop a common language and set of tools we can use to better love and disciple our children and students.
Rhonda Andrews is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Associate Professor of Social Work at George Fox University. Kimberly Tiel-Heye is a Special Education Instructional Mentor for the Beaverton School District and Adjunct Professor of Special Education at Pacific University.
