COVID-19: OUR RESPONSE
River West Family,
I want to begin by expressing my deep gratitude for the faith, patience, and joy that so many of you have exhibited over these past few weeks. These are unprecedented times we are in as we hear news each day about the ongoing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Thank you for your faithful prayers for our church and the high calling we have to hold up the hope of Jesus Christ in our community.
Certainly, you have all heard by now the request from our State Government to suspend all gatherings of 250 or more for the next four weeks. In addition to this request, the Oregon Health Authority has asked for people to exercise caution and wisdom with any gathering of 10 or more and to ensure social distancing of 3 feet or more in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
In light of these developments, our leadership has made the following prayerful decisions:
First, we will suspend our Sunday worship gatherings for the next four weeks. Instead, we would like to invite you to tune in each Sunday through our web site (www.riverwest.org) for an experience of worship and Word. I will be sharing a personal and timely message for our church this Sunday that will be available for viewing at 9 am. I hope you will join me!
Second, we will suspend all ministry events at the church for the next four weeks. I recognize that this is a strong step, but after much prayer, we feel that it is prudent for our church to demonstrate compliance with our state and local authorities who are trying to get out in front of the spread of the virus.
Third, we will continue to share updates and opportunities to connect and give through River West’s weekly “The Happenings” email. If you are not currently receiving “The Happenings”, sign up here.
Fourth, although we encourage you to gather for connection and worship through our normal in-home Community Groups and Bible studies, we ask that you would please exercise wisdom and caution in those gatherings, especially as it relates to vulnerable members of our community.
Finally, I want to say thank you to each of you in advance for your prayers and support in all of this. Together, I am convinced that we will see our God of hope at work in and through the River West community in the days ahead.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13
In His Grace,
