25-MINUTE CHALLENGE

Day 16

April 13, 2020

I’ll admit it: when I start a read-the-Bible-in-a-year plan, it’s often somewhere at the end of Exodus that I lose steam — and I’m guessing I’m not totally alone in that. But this time is different! This time we make it through Exodus and into Leviticus!

PRAY

Last week was all about gratitude, this week let’s turn our attention to adoration. Each day I’ll share a couple of attributes of God, and if one sticks out at you, I’d encourage you to meditate on it. What does this attribute mean for you and your life? How does it manifest itself? How have you seen it at work in the world? Today’s attributes: God’s PRESENCE (omnipresent) and God’s POWER (omnipotent).

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. What did you read/learn about God that is worthy of adoration?
  2. Did today’s section bring up anything that you feel the need to confess?
  3. Is there anything in here that you want to give thanks for?
  4. In light of all this, is there anything you want to ask God for?

Day 17

April 14, 2020

I love the way the Bible Project introduces the book of Numbers: “A road trip gone really bad. Israel leaves Mt. Sinai only to rebel against God at every step. God responds with short-term severity and long-term generosity as He leads them into the promised land.”

PRAY

Two attributes to meditate on today: God’s MERCY and God’s JUSTICE.

Day 18

April 15, 2020

The last book in the Torah. Often we read it as book five of a million, but really it’s Moses’ send-off — the swan song of Moses, who has carried us throughout the Bible thus far.

PRAY

Two attributes to meditate on today: God’s WISDOM and God’s FAITHFULNESS.

Day 19

April 16, 2020

With Moses out of the picture, the narrative doesn’t miss a beat as our friend Joshua takes up the torch and carries us forward. This book is full of amazing narratives and stories — including some of the most famous stories and passages in all of Scripture.

PRAY

Two attributes to meditate on today: God’s LOVE and God’s (I’m going to make up a word here): NEVER-CHANGINGNESS (immutability)

Day 20

April 17, 2020

When we see the word “judges”, we have to understand that these were not legal folks — they were rulers and leaders. Here’s how the ESV Bible describes the pattern of this book: “A pattern repeats throughout the book: 1) the people abandoned the Lord; 2) God punished them by raising up a foreign power to oppress them; 3) the people cried out to God for deliverance; and 4) God raised up a deliverer, or judge, for them.”

PRAY

Two attributes to meditate on today: God’s GOODNESS and God’s HOLINESS.
